Senior pets have special anesthetic and dental needs.

As pets age things change. Their body doesn't process drugs as quickly and other medical conditions pile up. Putting a senior pet under anesthesia for a dental procedure is a big decision for most pet parents.
Because dental care is most common in older pets, we have a great deal of experience safely anesthetizing senior pets for procedures.
Most senior pets even with other medical conditions can safely undergo anesthesia and surgery when carefully performed.

Dental Care in Senior Pets

Dental Care is extremely important in senior pets. Periodontal disease has been shown to have negative impacts on other organ systems such as the liver, kidneys, and has major negative impacts on diabetic control. It should be thought of as a multiplier of other conditions, making them develop earlier and progress more quickly.
It's incredibly important to keep up with dental care as pets age - none of the chronic conditions get better with age, and the dental conditions do not resolve either.
We commonly hear from pet owners that they wished they'd had the procedure done years ago, but were afraid of anesthesia for their pet
The other thing we commonly hear once things are done is that they recovered more quickly than expected.

If you're curious about dental care for your senior pet, please come in for a consultation. If after a consultation you decide not to move ahead with a procedure, there's no obligation to do so.
